The University of Tokyo is Japan’s leading institution of higher education, with faculties and graduate schools spanning a range of academic disciplines. Established in 1877, it is the country’s oldest national university and has played a central role in the shaping of modern Japan. As Japan’s top comprehensive research university, UTokyo drives social innovation and provides an academic environment that equips students with the intellectual and social knowledge essential for engaging with today’s global challenges.

In the fall of 2027, the University will launch the UTokyo College of Design (UTokyo Design). This new college will cultivate a dynamic learning community that welcomes students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, including those with a strong awareness of social issues. To ensure accessibility for students from around the world, all instruction will be conducted in English.
